5 steps to the perfect website: a road map for the small business owner

We hear it all day long: Web 2.0! E-commerce! Mobile commerce! Social commerce! There are more new ways to make money online than you could ever have predicted, if only you knew how.

‘If only’, right? But a modern website that gets you the attention you need, and sends the right customers or clients your way doesn’t need to be the all-singing, all-dancing technological beast the accountant in you fears.

Just remember that your website should work for you. It is the ultimate employee, working 24 hours a day to sell your products to every virtual passer-by on the information superhighway, for pennies. But just like a real employee, its appearance says a lot about your business. Poor graphics, misspellings and awkward design are the equivalent of having an unshaven, surly teen with a runny nose at the till. People will still shop there, but only if they have to. Brush its hair and put it in a smart shirt, and you’ll see more visitors stay to buy, or contact you for work.

With just a few steps, and the helpful infographic below, The Little Design Studio can set you on the road to a website that will do everything you need it to, and say all the right things about your brand and your business at the same time.
